Amendment to Permit Shipping Containers South of Highway 3 in Chester Village

mapWhat is the project?

A request has been received to permit shipping containers within the Highway Commercial Zone for commercial businesses located to the south of Highway 3 within the Village Boundary.

How can I be heard?

There are several opportunities throughout the process to hear about the proposal, to ask questions, and to provide feedback to the Municipality.

All public meetings and hearings will be posted on this page as the dates are set.

What has happened?

The Village Area Advisory Committee (VAAC) reviewed the initial request and decided to seek feedback and comments from members of the public before providing a recommendation on the amendment.

A Public Information Meeting was held on May 15, 2017. A paper and online survey was conducted, which has now closed. Posters advertising the survey were posted at prominent locations around the Village.

What is the next step?

The next step is for the survey results and a report on the Public Information Meeting to go back to the Village Area Advisory Committee (VAAC). After receiving the results of this public engagement, the Committee will make a recommendation to Citizens Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC) on whether to approve the amendment.

The CPAC will then consider the amendment before making a recommendation to Council.

Municipal Council will then give the amendment "first reading", which is the first step towards approving or rejecting the amendment. Council will also set a Public Hearing date, which is an opportunity for the public to speak directly to Council about the proposed amendment. After the Public Hearing, Council will then vote on whether or not to approve the amendment.
