Quality Management

We have changed the way we conduct business as Nova Scotia's first municipality to implement an ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System (QMS). The result? Increased accountability, greater transparency, efficient processes and reliable service.

In 2012 Council adopted a Quality Policy stating their commitment to "delivering reliable services in the most efficient, effective, professional and financially responsible manner to enhance the quality of life for our citizens." To honour that pledge we apply a process approach whereby staff work across functional boundaries to reduce redundancies and increase responsiveness. The QMS provides a consistent way for the Municipality to plan, deliver, measure and continually improve service delivery.

Although ISO 9001 certification isn't a legislated requirement for government, conforming to the standard is a sure means for streamlining operations and improving internal and external relationships. We are currently working towards recertifying our QMS under the revised ISO 9001:2015 standard, integrating the process approach within a comprehensive governance, risk management and internal control framework.
