Amendments to Create the Lakeside (LS) Zone

On Thursday, October 28, 2021, Chester Municipal Council gave notice of its intention to amend:

  • Municipal Planning Strategy; and
  • Municipal Land Use By-Law

Council intends to introduce the Lakeside Zone. The Lakeside Zone is being created to protect residential character and introduce basic environmental protections for development near a waterbody. The zone may be applied upon request to Council, who will consider the area proposed and local context before applying the Lakeside Zone to any properties. Each time that the Lakeside Zone is requested for a specific area a formal Rezoning process will be undertaken, which includes a public engagement process.

The proposed amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy include:

  • Add text at Section 6.6 to create the Lakeside Zone and supporting policy statements

The proposed amendments to the Municipal Land Use By-Law include: 

  • Add text at Section 9.4 to describe and outline the Lakeside Zone and corresponding regulations from 9.4.1 to 9.4.11.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Public Health guidance, the PUBLIC HEARING scheduled for Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. has moved to an online virtual hearing.

Residents can give their opinions at the Public Hearing by pre-registering to receive a link to join the meeting. Pre-registration requests and written comments must be received before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Council may vote to approve or reject the proposed changes at the Public Hearing.
