Bill is the Chair of the Church Park Board of Trustees and has served as a board member for about 15 years. As Chair, he is unsparing in his commitment of time and effort to ensure the success of the organization so that all the users of the recreation facilities have a positive experience at The Park. Bill spends many hours monthly and rolls up his sleeves in many areas. He brings a community first approach to every area he is involved in whether it is resolving conflict, negotiating agreements, or chairing board meetings all with a clever and welcome sense of humour. He works with engineers and contractors engaged in work at the Park, he works with The Park’s legal counsel, when necessary, he sits on the Human Resource Committee, he is a signing officer, and much more.
In addition to his significant contributions to The Park, Bill volunteered with the Chester Minor Hockey Association where he served in many capacities including President, Vice President, Tournament Chair, Coach, etc. Bill’s commitment to minor hockey not only occurred at the Board Table and behind the bench, but he also contributed from his personal financial resources to ensure playing hockey was possible for all.
Bill also volunteered for four years with Nova Scotia Senior Women’s hockey provincial team as Coach and Assistant Coach. The teams he coached travelled to compete in national competitions.
While Bill’s volunteer activity for Church Park is mostly unseen by users of the facility his commitment of time results in many community benefits including:
• Increased active and healthy living opportunities resulting in improved physical fitness and health outcomes.
• Increased social connection opportunities resulting in improved mental health and well-being.
• Positive economic impact through job creation, spending at local businesses including restaurants, gas stations, accommodations, repair services, etc.
