Water Distribution Program

Council for the Municipality of Chester (MOC) has approved a district-wide potable water distribution program in response to the severe dry conditions and the impact it is having on the quantity and quality of residents’ well water.

The program will start Monday, August 18, 2025, and will provide households experiencing a potable water shortage with 4L of water per day per person per household up to four people. Similar to previous years, the program will be coupon-based and available to MOC residents, who must submit a dry well report form and register their civic address to be eligible. The dry well report form can be found online at https://chester.ca/drywell or by calling MOC at 902-275-3554.

Coupons will be accepted at five locations within the Municipality. Locations are listed on the back of coupons. It is expected that with stores seeing a demand for bottled water, there is potential for daily limits to be imposed. The public can bring coupons to any of the five locations and are asked to have patience with staff and supply during periods of high demand.

Coupons are available at the Municipal Office, 151 King Street in Chester, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, starting on August 18, 2025.

If these times are not convenient, residents are encouraged to contact the Municipal Office at 902-275-3554 to have coupons mailed or to make alternate arrangements. Coupons can also be picked up at the District #1 Community Centre and New Ross Community School by appointment. Please contact Nadine Hackney at (902) 275-8503 to coordinate.

Coupons are good for a two-week period (Monday to Sunday) but will expire on the second Sunday for as long as the program is in place. After expiration, new coupons will be issued for the next program period. The Municipality will assess the situation again on September 11, 2025, to determine if the program will or will not continue.

For convenience, Graves Island Provincial Park has also opened shower facilities to residents from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. daily. Please check in with the Park Attendant upon arrival.
