Weather conditions and planned or unplanned disruptions may compel the Municipality of Chester to close or cancel public events. This page provides, when possible, the most recent status updates.

Municipal Building Closed

Municipal Offices in Chester are closed to the public.

Payments can be made online or in our dropbox. The deadline for low income tax exemptions is extended until June 30. Call 902-275-3554.

All meetings will be closed to the public. Future Council meetings will be livestreamed via Facebook.

All recreational programming is cancelled until June. Call 902-275-3490.

All municipal parks, beaches, playgrounds and facilities are closed until further notice. Call 902-275-3490.

There is no change to waste collection; however, hours at the Public Drop-off are reduced to Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Call 902-275-2330.

The Safe Sharps program is suspended for the time being.

Call 902-275-3080 to schedule a building or fire inspection, or to file a building permit application.

Call 902-275-2599 for development and planning services or to file a development permit application.

STORM CANCELLATION POLICY

Programs MAY or MAY NOT be cancelled when there is a storm. To be sure, always check first before heading out to your program. If the weather is questionable, we encourage you to call our voicemail at 902-275-3490 or check the “Closures & Cancellation” button on the front page of our website:  www.chester.ca.

THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY:

Morning Programs - If school is cancelled due to a storm, we will automatically cancel all morning programs whether they are held at a school or not.

Chester Area Middle School (CAMS) - If school is cancelled due to a storm, we will automatically cancel all programs at CAMS including both day and night programs.

For Aspotogan Consolidated Elementary School (ACES), Forest Heights Community School (FHCS) and New Ross Consolidated School (NRCS) the following applies:

Night programs at ACES, NRCS & FHCS are not necessarily cancelled if school is cancelled. We wait until 3:00 pm to determine if programs are on or not for that evening. We base our decision on current weather conditions and forecasts. If in doubt, check the “Closures & Cancellation” button on the front page of our website or call 902-275-3490.

Weekend Programs - We will call all participants if the program is cancelled on the weekend, however, in case we can't reach you, we encourage you to call our voicemail at 902-275-3490 or check the “Closures & Cancellation” button on the front page of our website:  www.chester.ca.
