Property Tax Payments

Internet and Telephone Banking – Check with your financial institution for details.  Please be sure to use the eight digit municipal account number as shown in the box with your property description.  Please ensure that zeros at the beginning of your number are used.  If you have multiple accounts, you must do this for all property accounts you have within our municipality.

Bank Payments – Tax payments are accepted at any chartered bank or financial institution, provided you bring your payment stub.

Credit Card Payments – Can be made on our website through a third party provider “Paymentus”, or by calling 1-866-810-2882 within North America or 1-905-288-3371 outside North America. They do charge a fee based on the amount of the payment.  If you own multiple properties in the municipality and you choose this method of payment, you must do each account separately.

Mortgage Company – This method of paying property taxes must be set up by your Mortgage Company.

Mail – When paying by mail (do not submit cash), the taxpayer assumes the responsibility for late arrival.  The post-mark date will be honoured in the event of payments being received after the due date.  Interest will be charged for payments post-marked after the due date.

Postdated Cheques - You can submit a series of postdated cheques and when they are processed a receipt with the outstanding balance will be mailed out to you.

In Person – Your payment can be dropped off at the Municipality of Chester administration office at 151 King Street, Chester, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.  After hours you can put it in the secure drop off box to the right side of the building.  If paying by cheque please make your cheque payable to The Municipality of Chester.  Credit card payments are not accepted in person, however, we do accept credit card cheques.

How are my payments applied if my account is in arrears?
Payments received on properties that are in arrears have their payment applied first to the penalties and interest, then to the oldest year’s principle taxes, then to the oldest year’s other charges (if applicable)
