NOTICE OF AMENDMENT
TAKE NOTICE THAT on the 10th of July, 2025, Chester Municipal Council adopted amendments to the Municipality of Chester Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS).
These amendments were undertaken to comply with changes to Provincial Minimum Planning Standards, updated by the Provincial Government. These changes established maximum setbacks for large-scale wind turbines in all municipalities across the Province.
The Amendments include:
- Changes to MPS Policy A-28 as follows:
Replaced language dictating setback distances for Large-Scale Wind Turbines. New setbacks are as follows:
- no less than four times the tower height from the nearest
dwelling unit; OR,
- the minimum distance to ensue the installation does not
exceed ambient sound levels by more than 40 decibels,
measured outside the dwelling; OR,
- the minimum distances to ensue shadow flicker does not
exceed 30 minutes per day or 30 hours per year.
- There shall be no illumination other than as required by
Transport Canada or other Provincial or Federal Legislation.These amendments are now in effect. Copies of amendments are available from the Chester Municipal Office during normal office hours. For more information, call 902-275-2599.
