NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

In the matter of the Municipal Government Act and the  Municipality of the District of Chester

TAKE NOTICE THAT on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Chester Municipal Council gave “First Reading” to draft amendments to the Village of Chester Secondary Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw. The amendments were requested by the Chester Municipal Heritage Society (landowner) and the purpose of the amendments is to permit limited commercial use in the institutional zone specific to lands known as 20/26 Smith Street or PID # 60738093 (Chester train station).

A PUBLIC HEARING will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, beginning at 8:45a.m. in Municipal Council Chambers (151 King Street, Chester).

Residents can give their opinions at the Public Hearing by speaking in person or sending written comments to:  Pamela Myra, Municipal Clerk, 151 King Street, PO Box 369, Chester, NS B0J 1J0 or pmyra@chester.ca.

Comments must be received before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Council may vote to approve or reject the amendments at the Council Meeting which will follow the conclusion of the Public Hearing.

Copies of the proposed changes are available by contacting the Community Development Department, located at 186 Central Street, Chester.
