Public Information Meeting
Provincial Update to Minimum Planning Standards:
Amendments to Maximum Setback for Commercial Wind Turbines
What: Public Information Meeting on mandate from Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs to implement new maximum allowed setbacks for Commercial Wind Turbine
When: 6:00pm, Wednesday, May 7, 2025
Where: Council Chambers, 151 King Street, Chester
What is it: Correspondence from John. Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing advises that the Minimum Planning Regulations of the Municipal Government Act have been amended, setting out a maximum setback for new Commercial-scale Wind Turbines. These Provincial changes require Municipalities to amend planning documents to adopt the new maximum setbacks, particularly, in the case of the Municipality of Chester, where current setbacks exceed the new maximum setbacks permitted by the Province.
How can I have my say? This meeting is a chance to hear about the proposal and to ask questions.
After this meeting staff will present draft amendments to the Municipal Area Advisory Committee (tentative date June 18, 2025 at 6:00pm in Council Chambers) who will make a recommendation to Municipal Council. A Public Hearing is then scheduled to receive feedback from the public on the amendments. Council will then vote on whether to approve or reject the amendments.
Council and Committee meetings are open to the public. Notices with the date, time and location of meetings will be posted in a local newspaper, on our website, and notices will be posted at the Municipal Office.
