Amendments to Municipal and Village of Chester Planning Strategies:

Remove policies related to archeological assessment

What:

Public Information Meeting to discuss the removal of policies related to archeological assessment and significant sites known to the Province of Nova Scotia.

This meeting is a chance to hear about the proposal and to ask questions.

When:6 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Where:Council Chambers, 151 King Street, Chester
What is it:   
  • Several policies in the Municipal Planning Strategy and Village of Chester Secondary Planning Strategy that relate to archeological assessments prior to a development being approved have been identified for removal.
  • These policies may fall outside of the authority granted by the Municipal Government Act and additionally, have not realized the intended effect.
  • These policies only apply to development agreements and applications to amend a Land Use By-law.
After this meeting staff will present the draft amendments to the Municipal Planning Advisory Committee and the Village Planning Advisory Committee who will make a recommendation to Municipal Council. Council then holds a Public Hearing to receive feedback from the public on the proposed re-zoning. Council will then vote on whether to rezone the property.
All Council and Committee meetings are open to the public. Dates are yet to be determined. Notices with the date, time and location of meetings will be posted in a local newspaper, on our website, and notices will be posted at the Municipal Office.
