ActivitiesThe Municipal and Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial (CSAP) school board elections will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024. On this date voters in the Municipality of Chester will elect their Council and CSAP representatives.
The Municipality is once again providing the option of electronic voting for residents, which can be done via telephone or internet. Electronic voting will allow voters to vote at their convenience from anywhere there is a phone or internet.
Members of Council represent you and are responsible for services that affect all residents. Some of those services are waste collection, municipal sewer services, emergency measures, land use planning, fire inspection, development, building permits, recreational services, and various others.
Voters Lists
Voter Information Letter - The Municipality has an agreement to use the Provincial Voters List and once received in July, a preliminary review will be done to ensure it is accurate. Following that review, expect to receive a Voter Information Letter later in July. This letter is to advise you that you are on the Preliminary Municipal Voters List and the information we have received from Elections Nova Scotia. This letter will include your full name, civic address, mailing address, district, and polling division.
The Revision Period is from Tuesday, August 6 to Friday, August 23. Following the revision of the list, the Amended Municipal Voters List will be used to send out the Voter Instruction Letters.

Voter Instruction Letter – Following the revision period, the Amended Voters List will be used to send out the Voter Instruction Letter. This letter will be sent out prior to the start of Advance Polling (October 10) and will include your full name, civic address, mailing address, district, and polling division, a Voter PIN that you will use to vote electronically (by phone or internet). Your birthdate will be used by yourself at the time of voting to confirm that you are the person connected to the Voter PIN.
If you do not receive a Voter Information Letter or Voter Instruction Letter you can still be added to the Voter List if you qualify – you must be 18 years old on or before the first advance polling day (October 10, 2024), a Canadian citizen on or before the first advance polling day (October 10, 2024), you must have been living in Nova Scotia six months before the first advance polling day (by April 9, 2024), and you must be living in the Municipality immediately before the first advance polling day (by October 9, 2024). Some exceptions are:
- Students living away from home (special rules apply).
- Some people cannot vote (the Returning Officer, an inmate in a correctional or reform centre, or a person convicted of bribery under the Municipal Elections Act in the six years preceding election day).
Who can I vote for in the October 2024 Municipal Election?
Council – you can vote for one Councillor in the district in which you live.
Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial (CSAP) School Board – you can vote for one representative of the CSAP School Board. It is the responsibility of the voter to be aware of their qualifications to vote for the CSAProvincial School Board. Contact the Municipal Election Office to see if you qualify.
