“Coach Mike” as he is affectionately known as to his players has dedicated countless hours to the creation, coaching & organization of Chester’s only basketball organization – The Chester Sharks. Mike is a mentor, support, and idol to his more than 50 youth participants. He is always there with encouraging words, positive feedback, and guidance for the kids – AND their parents.
The Chester Sharks began about 3 years ago as a skills program for new basketball players – Junior NBA. The program grew under Coach Mike’s direction to what it is today – a thriving club. But Mike will be the first to tell you – none of it would be possible without the help of other parent coaches (Kayla, Shane, Devin & Dana) and parent volunteers (in particular Gabe).
Chester Minor Basketball introduces the game to new young players through Jr. NBA and provides an avenue for experienced players to practice and compete locally. Basketball allows children to be active in a safe and nurturing environment. The players have learned about teamwork, hard work, and friendship through sport. They have learned about resilience and determination.
